I like to think of it in terms of food, - Great films such as Goodfellas and The Shawshank Redemption are Three course meals, mindless action films are junk food , i.e you know it isn't very good but you still enjoy it. I love a Sunday roast but i'm also addicted to chips.

    That is a great analogy.

I'd have to agree with the above statements about the "quality" of action films dropping.

I thought it was my film choices being better informed and my taste for action dropping, but maybe it isn't.

In the good old days (ie before CGI was so common place) the effects ran to explosions and gunshots. These days you can do anything and they seem to spend all their time focusing on the effects, or then next ground-breaking effect.

What nobody seems to have figured is that is you do that at the expense of the character and plot development, the audience won't care what happens. We'll sit there and go "woah" as the effect comes on but that's it. They need to try and strike a balance where the effects compliment the story, no act above it.

For some reason, I can watch Mission Impossible all the time and never get tired of it...also, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, even though it is not an action, it is a horror with no story, like an action movie, and I used to watch it like everyday.....maybe it is just me.....

Because action movies have rpay value, you can see them over and over again. go watch jut about any john woo movie the action is a compliment of the story, and very gacefully i might add, watch the killer or A bullet inthe head, nother good one is Tide and Time by Tsui Hark.
Whoever said all americans are thick as pig shit, isan ignoant little shit, who makes probably 95% of the movies you watch, Americans, thats who, oh and the queens a slut.
